A Peek at the Unique Event is Coming Back to Sanibel
Sanibel is still slowly coming back to life in some areas after the impact of the pandemic and the hurricane. With that more and more beloved Sanibel businesses, events, and more are coming back to life. One of those events is the "A Peek at the Unique" event put on by the Zonta Club of Sanibel- Captiva.
What is the Zonta Club?
The Zonta Club has been a presence on Sanibel/Captiva Island for 30 years. They have put on several fundraising events and service projects to help make a difference in women's lives on a local level, regionally, and around the world. Their website states that the foundation has contributed more than $1.1 million in grant awards to local organizations that help women.
Zonta is an international organization and the Sanibel/Captiva chapter is a leading club donor to the organization. The club has nearly 70 members who give their time generously with service projects of various degrees. It is a great way to meet other women on the island as well as help women in need locally and around the country.
The group is always looking for more women to join. They welcome both full-time and part-time residents of Sanibel or Captiva Island. You can learn more about membership on the membership page of the Zonta website.
A Peek at the Unique Details
A Peek at The Unique is an event that allows you to tour homes and gardens around Sanibel and Captiva. This year the event will be on Saturday, March 16 from 9 AM to noon. Hop on the bus that leaves from the Sanibel Community House to enjoy the tour. Tickets for the event are $65 per guest and will be available soon.
The event has been running for almost 20 years and is somewhat of an island institution. It is a great day out for both Islanders and seasonal residents. It has become so popular that many visitors have purchased tickets to the event as well. It is not uncommon for people to fall in love with this home tour event and make it a yearly tradition to take part in. It is a fun way to see unique spaces on Sanibel Island while contributing to something that makes the world better.
This year the peek will be more of a petite peek to be mindful that many businesses and residents on the island are still recovering from the last 16 months after the hurricane. Zonta will also be hosting other events including Jukebox Bingo on February 21, March 20, and April 17. Bingo tickets are $20 paid at the Community House door on the day of the event. Reservations for bingo are not required but it is first come first serve and seats are limited.
What Programs Does Zonta Provide?
Zonta is an organization that provides service to many nonprofits and organizations around the islands, the region, and the country that help empower the lives of other women. Many of the members of Zonta have given their time to organizations like F.I.S.H. of Sanibel Captiva, Children's Netwerk of Southwest Florida, Healthy Start, Pace Center for Girls in Lee County, Trailways Camp, Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Community Housing and Resources, the Blood Drive in conjunction with Lee County health, Habitat Women Build, and much more.
In addition to serving these nonprofits the women of the Zonta club have also put on many great events to help raise money to keep these organizations running and providing needed services for women everywhere.
Purchasing a ticket for A Unique Peek is a great way to learn more about interesting areas of Sanibel. Joining the Zonta group if you are a woman who has just moved or is considering a move to the islands is a great way to get to know other people and get acclimated to the community.
