Celebrating Fourth of July on Sanibel IslandSanibel Island is special. It is one of the most amazing locations in the world. For this reason, many people fall in love with the island and move here while several others live here part-time or vacation here frequently. The community of Sanibel Island only enhances this most beautiful spot in South Florida. To get to know the community is to fall in love even more. One way to do so is to attend the great local events. The Fourth of July is a great time to start. Fourth of July on Sanibel Island

Independence Day Parade

What is the Fourth of July without a local parade? The Annual Sanibel Independence Day Parade is coming back in 2024. It will follow the traditional parade route. Parade participants will gather at Island Inn Road and begin "marching" down the route at 9 am. They will wind their way from Island Inn Road to Tarpon Bay Road then to Periwinkle Way and make their way east to Casa Ybel Road. If you would like to participate in the parade you can get an entry form at Bank of the Islands along with your parade t-shirt.

Celebration at the Sanibel Recreation Center

Not long after the parade is wrapped up the Sanibel Island Recreation Center will host a fun Fourth of July celebration. From 11 am to 2 pm head over to the center and enjoy games in the gym, a stilt walker, an open swim in the pools, a bounce house, hot dogs, shaved ice, and face painting.

The Fourth of July Road Rally

For 44 years the Friends of Randy on Sanibel (FOROS) have put together the road rally. This Fourth of July the rally will start at noon at the Timbers Restaurant and Fish Market. The Road Rally is a large scavenger hunt done in a car. This is not a race for speed. Each team in a vehicle is given instructions, driving directions, and a list of clues/questions they have to find the answers to. There have been over 100 items on the list in past years. This year it is estimated the road ralley route should take drivers less than two hours. Points/ the winners will be calculated based on the number of correct answers, time, and mileage.

The road rally route finishes in the place it starts, at Timbers. There will be a party for all road rally participants at Timbers when the rally is finished. FOROS is still looking for event sponsors for the rally along with donations of prizes in the form of services, gift cards, etc. Every year the rally takes the proceeds from the event and makes a donation to a local organization. This year the rally will benefit F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva and the Community Housing and Resources of Sanibel to help families in need with back-to-school supplies.

FOROS is an all-volunteer non-profit group on Sanibel Island. If you would like to register for the rally you can do so through email, as the organization does not have a website. This contact information was provided by a local news outlet for registration and sponsorships:

"To register or for information about sponsorships or donating items, contact Randy Carson at rcarsonsan@gmail.com or 239-699-8739 or Allen Dunham at cougar3_33@yahoo.com or 239-699-9474."

Sanibel always has something fun and special taking place. It is an island of warmth and community we live here and firmly believe this. We love to share how great Sanibel is. Check out this excerpt shared in a previous blog article about raising a family here:

"The community is great. The people are friendly and the population is small. This makes it easy to get to know a majority of the people that live on the island full-time."
