Celebrities in Sanibel and Captiva Island

Visitors are likely to wander past some of the biggest celebrity names as Captiva is historically a popular destination for A-list visits. Captiva is approximately 5 miles long and half a mile wide and is accessible by road from Sanibel. The island’s only road, Captiva Drive, which runs the length of the island, is lined with spectacular multi-million dollar properties, stretching the width of the island. There are no eye sores here with Captiva developments fitting into the lush, tropical scenery with nothing built higher than the tallest palm tree.

Visitors in Captiva can relax on the islands pristine beaches, which have the world’s best shelling, and go fishing, snorkelling, kayaking and exploring.

Larry Bird is known for his basketball legacy, boasting the record of being the only athlete to win MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the year. He purchased his initial home on Captiva in 1993, He decided to demolish it and build his nearly 6,000 sq. ft. custom waterfront mansion overlooking Venetian Bay.

Tom Cruise’s Mother

Tom Cruise does not personally have a residence on Captiva island. It  was a frequent spot he visited because his mother lived there. The actor enjoyed the beautiful sands of Sanibel for vacation getaways.

Christopher Walken's parents did live on Captiva many years ago (70's), but they are no longer alive. His brother was having dinner at the Bubble Room and watching the Oscars on the TV when his brother won an Oscar for Best Supporting Male actor for the Deer Hunter. They had a HUGE celebration. 

Tom Hamilton

Tom Hamilton the bass player for Aerosmith used to live around the corner from our office, the singer Brian Howe from Bad Company (after Paul Rogers) and Brian Johnson of AC/DC used to live out here as well.

Mike Pence

Mike Pence usually comes every year for vacation, it makes our traffic a bit of a mess because of the secret service and shutting down the causeway when he arrives. Willard Scott used to live here and also Tom Brokaw (Karen sold his house to one of her clients).

Delta Burke and Gerald McRaney vacation on Sanibel every year.

Tom Hanks decided to make Sanibel Island his second residency.

The rich and famous are just like us. They have favorite supermarkets and clothing stores. They also enjoy a day out on the beach with family or simply curling up in a nice corner and reading a good book with a steaming cup of tea.
