Chamber of Commerce - Blind Pass Dredging Update

The Blind Pass dredging project off Sanibel started last week after being delayed for several weeks due to weather and mechanical issues.




The dredging will take place at Blind Pass, between Sanibel and Captiva.



Equipment is in place to remove 120,000 cubic yards of sand and put it back on the shore near Bowman's Beach.



The need to dredge is crucial. If Blind Pass fills in completely, it will become stagnant, killing fish and plants.



One of the biggest challenges of this project doesn't have anything to do with equipment, but with wildlife. Crews have to make sure they don't disturb the nesting turtles or birds. "It's being inspected...
