The Sanibel Recreation Center is Back Up and Running!

The Sanibel Island Recreation Center is open again after hurricane Ian. Currently, the recreation center is open to all residents for free from Tuesday to Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM. If you have any questions about events or programs taking place currently at the recreation center you can call the number 239–472–0302 or 239–395–1860.

The Sanibel recreation center has been open for one week and is located at 3880 Sanibel Captiva Rd. You can check out all the latest information about the recreation center at www.mysanibel.com or on the Facebook page linked above.

Current weekly activities offered at the Sanibel Recreation Center

The recreation center offers a number of great programs including many fitness classes. Here is the current activity offerings.

Playground, gymnasium, and pools

Currently, all of these features at the recreation center are closed until further notice. Check back often or call the numbers listed above to see when they might have plans to open these back up.

Locker rooms and showers

The locker rooms will be open from Tuesday to Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM

The Sanibel Recreation Center is Back Up and Running!The Osprey Room

The Osprey room will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM there will be a coffee station and free Wi-Fi available for people needing a quiet place to hang out and access the Internet.

Outdoor pickleball courts

The pickleball courts are open for use outside of the recreation center from Tuesday through Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM

Weight room

The weight room will be available for use anytime Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Yoga class

A free gentle yoga class instructed by Patricia Jennetty will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 AM

Upcoming events at the Sanibel recreation center

Community holiday festivities

The Sanibel recreation center will be hosting a community holiday party on Saturday, December 17 from 4 PM to 6 PM. This holiday party is open to everybody in the community. Expect to enjoy a hot cocoa bar, ice cream bar, crafts, and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus themselves.

Pick up outdoor pickleball games

If you enjoy a good game of pickleball and who doesn't you can stop by the recreation center and hop into a pick-up pickleball game on the outdoor courts. Paddles and balls are available at the front desk for public use on a first come first serve basis. Drop into a game anytime the courts are open from Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Saturday youth fun day

On Saturdays, the recreation center will be hosting youth fun day programs. The first programs will be on December 10 and December 17. Drop off your kids at the recreation center for a Saturday fun day between 9 AM and 4 PM for children in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Send your kids with a sack lunch and a water bottle. Kids can enjoy activities including crafts, games, and more. This is a good way to get any kids on the island together and connecting with each other while adults continue to work on recovery efforts around the island.
